Air travel is currently at its highest level worldwide since the 11 September attacks in 2001 - despite widespread knowledge about the damage caused to the environment by aircraft fuel. It's estimated that one long haul flight on the world's biggest airliner, the 550-seater Airbus A380, would burn as much energy as a nine-mile queue of traffic.
