Surf travel company Errant has announced it is to make every flight its clients take Carbon Neutral. It is the first company of its kind to make the move, and UK Director Chris Thompson hopes that other tour operators will soon follow suit.

"As surfers we get so much out of being in the natural environment and making the most out of what it brings us. We therefore have a direct obligation to protect these surroundings” he explained.

"Errant wants to ensure that if we are causing damage, we're rectifying that as far as we possibly can."

Air travel is currently at its highest level worldwide since the 11 September attacks in 2001 – despite widespread knowledge about the damage caused to the environment by aircraft fuel. It's estimated that one long haul flight on the world's biggest airliner, the 550-seater Airbus A380, would burn as much energy as a nine-mile queue of traffic. With more and more individuals offsetting their air travel emissions, organisations like The CarbonNeurtral Company are working on getting major business groups to commit to the cause.
