We've just heard, the toast of Edinburgh Festival, the critic’s darling and a rising star on the lit scene, Molly Naylor will be heading to Falmouth for a homecoming gig this April, courtesy of Cornish reading night Telltales. Whenever I Get Blown Up I Think Of You, which will be coming to The Poly, Falmouth, on Wednesday the 27 April is the first Telltales Presents: event, an opportunity for Cornish audiences to see contemporary writers perform in local venues. A powerful coming of age story, Molly’s one woman show is based on her real life experiences before, during and after she found herself in the 2005 July bombings on London Underground. Funny, frank and poetic, the performance looks at how life can take unexpected turns and how we put things back together, after they’ve been blown apart. Supported by a yet to be announced Telltales writer, the evening promises to be engaging, entertaining and thought provoking; an opportunity to see someone The Times described as a ‘genuinely talented woman’, return to her roots to tread the boards. A writer and performer who grew up in Falmouth, Molly’s poems have been featured on BBC Radio 4 and she has performed at events and festivals all over the world including Latitude, Glastonbury, Palabra y Musica, The Big Chill, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Soho Theatre and many more. A book of her show is forthcoming from Nasty Little Press and she is also currently working on an audio play for BBC Radio 4, a sit com and a new live show. “We’re so excited to be bringing Molly home to Falmouth to perform at The Poly,” says Clare Howdle, Telltales founder and organiser of Telltales Presents:, “her show is outstanding and will hopefully inspire other writers from Cornwall to develop and perform their own work. That’s what Telltales has always been about.” Telltales Presents: Molly Naylor, Whenever I Get Blown Up I Think Of You, is on at The Poly, Falmouth on Wednesday 27 April at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8 (£6 concessions). Call 01326 319461 for tickets. We'll be having a chat with Molly to find out about her show and her incredible experience on that fateful day in June 2005 soon. In the meantime, check out extracts of her performance. It's definitely one for the diary...
