Fancy a juicy mouthful of souljazz next Sunday? Then you'd better head on down to Miss Peapod's in Penryn, for a live performance from Frootful and friends to celebrate the launch of his debut solo album Colours. Released on Freestyle Records earlier this year and produced by Frootful's compadre and long time band mate Adam Gibbons (Lack of Afro), the album has been applauded by pundits and enjoyed by many, thanks to its tasty combination of swinging soul jazz, soul, R&B, Latin and ska. Colours was recently Album Of The Week on Jazz FM and has received some great radio play on BBC6 Music, XFM and FIB. Craig Charles (BBC6 Music) called it "fresh and funky and totally irresistible!", while Blues & Soul magazine said it was “refreshing to the ears, a distilled and immediate dose of retro soul for the now generation!” So with Colours turning heads nationwide, Frootful - aka Nick Radford - thought it high time to serve it up fresh, with some choice live gigs to get the juices flowing. Going under the name The Frootful Art Ensemble, Nick will be on guitar accompanied by Adam Gibbons (Lack of Afro) on alto sax and percussion; Angeline Morrison (The Ambassadors of Sorrow) on vocals; plus double bass, drums and tenor sax. Expect sharp suits, a knockout vocalist, and deliciously grooveful tunes aimed squarely at the dance floor. The gig will be the first opportunity to see Frootful live in Cornwall, not to mention a chance to get your dance shoes out and bust some shapes. Not to be missed. The Frootful Art Ensemble will be performing at Miss Peapod’s, Penryn, on Sunday 17 April; doors will open at 8pm. Tickets cost £5 (£4 concession) and will be available on the door. Colours will be available to purchase on the night, plus limited edition prints by Frootful and other selected artists.
