If you're in the mood for grooves this March and fancy doing it live, it's well worth checking out the Lack of Afro live band as Adam Gibbons and his troupe of talented friends hit the road on a live tour. Multi-instrumentalist Adam and his live band (including special guest vocalist, Dojo Cuts' Roxie Ray - all the way from Australia) have just got back from a string of gigs in Spain. After serving up some rich rare grooves with added spice across the Continent, they're now back in the UK ready to "blend funk, hip hop and soul into a steamy stew of a breakbeat bonanza" on home soil too. Lack of Afro's debut single 'Wait a Minute' (2006) was one of Freestyle Records' fastest selling 12"s ever, and has gone on to sell massive numbers worldwide, also appearing on countless compilations. The subsequent 2007 album, Press On, was hailed by iDJ magazine as "one of the greatest albums of the modern funk era", and had the likes of Craig Charles (BBC 6 Music's legendary Funk and Soul show) clammering for more. Not bad for a boy from Exeter!
With the recent release of a super-slick second album Your Groove, My Move - which includes a host of talented guest vocalists, instrumentalists and rappers Wax and Herbal T - 2010 looks set to be even better. Tomorrow night, Lack of Afro will be doing a Maida Vale session with Mark Lamarr (for his God's Jukebox show, Friday nights on BBC Radio 2) before embarking on a string of dates across the UK (see below). After that the festival circuit beckons and from there, who knows? Watch this space for links to the Maida Vale session as soon as we have them, plus live reviews.
Lack of Afro UK Tour dates: 18 March: Mama Stone's, Exeter 20 March: Cargo, London 21 March: The Hi-fi Club, Leeds 25 March: Metropolis, Bristol
