This week is National Bike Week and to encourage people to get on their bikes and ride, Cafe Irie in Newquay is holding a Bikes and Burgers event on Friday 24 June. Although 88% of households in the UK own bicycles, only 14% of those bicycles get used regularly, and National Bike Week is aiming to change that, helping people get to know their bikes and get cycling. As keen cyclists themselves, the owners of Cafe Irie are onboard with the programme and keen to do their bit, so will be hosting a free barbecue and drop in session to help the people of Cornwall get to grips with cycling. There'll be tips and repairs workshops, time trials, social riding and road racing info and demos from Camel Valley Cycling Club and Newquay Velo Cycle Club, as well as demos from South Fork Racing team rider Matthew Loake. Plus Ideal Bike Shop, Newquay, will be there representing all things BMX. On top of that there'll be free grub, stickers and a chance to get advice from the experts on how to get the most out of cycling, from keeping fit to fixing a puncture. Sounds good to us... Bikes and Burgers will be held at Cafe Irie, Newquay on Friday 24 June, from 6pm, www.cafeirie.co.uk, 01637 859200. For more information on National Bike Week check out www.bikeweek.org.uk
