It's with heavy heart that we bring you the following news story. There will be no Surfers Against Sewage Ball in 2007. Campaigns Director Richard Hardy said that spiralling costs relating to the event had simply made the financial risk too great. In a letter sent out to SAS members on 29 January, Hardy said: "We barely managed to break even on the 2006 event, which has been hugely disappointing to everyone concerned, especially as the core reason for holding the event has always been to generate funds towards our campaign for clean and safe recreational water." Worryingly, he made no promises that the Ball would return in 2008 either, saying: "We are continuing to consider options for the future of the event, however, we are clear that we cannot run the event again unless we are confident it can raise significant funds for SAS." 2007 is still set to be a busy year for SAS though, and you can check out all the latest projects by going to www.sas.org.uk. |
