The 10:10 Climate Change campaign has launched a rather explosive mini-movie guaranteed to turn heads, and stomachs, in the quest to get everyone to cut their carbon emissions by 10%.

The mini-movie, directed by Richard Curtis and created by Spanner films, takes a rather fatalistic view of people who aren’t signing up to the 10:10 campaign, blowing up school kids and blasting celebrities to bits in the name of putting the brakes on manmade climate change.

“Clearly we don’t think they should really be blown up,” explained 10:10 founder Franny Armstrong to the Guardian yesterday, “but we’ve got about four years to stabilise global emissions and we are not anywhere near doing that. All our lives are at threat and if that’s not worth jumping up and down about, I don’t know what is.”

And jump up and down people will, once this film gets out there. Anything that shows a bunch of kids splattering across a classroom is sure to get tongues wagging though not necessarily about climate change. Still, if people are talking about the mini-movie's gore then ultimately they are talking about climate change. All publicity is good publicity after all.

“The 10:10 team are a fearless energetic bunch, completely dedicated to getting the public fired up about climate change” says Richard Curtis, “they also turn out to be surprisingly good at blowing stuff up!"

The mini-movie has been released online today and will be shown in cinemas and on television from October onwards.

The 10:10 campaign was launched in the UK in September 2009 and already has 91,000 people, 3,500 businesses and 4,000 councils, schools and other organisations signed up.

So if you want to avoid the detonator you’d best sign up the 10:10 or go the same way as Gillian Andersen...
