UNDERAGE IN NEWQUAY? DRINKAWARE HAS GOT YOUR BACK PDF Print
News

So you’ve finished your exams and you’re looking for high jinx and good times. Newquay seems like a good bet, right? But with the alcohol-related deaths of two young people last year, the dangers of excessive drinking have been made more apparent than ever. Step up alcohol awareness charity Drink Aware on a mission to tackle underage drinking with their new Got Your Back Campaign this July...

Already in full swing, the Campaign is taking place at the Fistral Blu Cafe on Fistral Beach, Newquay throughout July, with a whole month of activities exclusively for under 18s.

On the 16, 19 and 23 July the Cafe will become a safe, alcohol-free zone where young people can chill out and enjoy themselves without hitting the bottle.

And safe definitely doesn’t mean boring. The cafe is packed with loads of free, fun things to do, from battling it out in WII tournaments and honing DJ skills on the decks, to using the photo booth to create fun summerbreak mementos.

There’s also great quality grub at reduced prices and the chance for young people to talk to experts who know how to have a good time without letting alcohol ruin it. Parents can also visit the Drinkaware website where they'll find tips about teens and drinking, to help them get a handle on that inevitable first summer break away from home.

Working with The Newquay Safe Partnership (lead by the local police and Council) Drinkaware’s Got Your Back Campaign aims to promote safety among young people, encouraging teens to keep an eye out for each other, while increasing understanding across the board of the risks that excess drinking brings.

Here’s hoping it works and good luck to them...
