Things are starting to take shape, but until we're ready to share what it's all about please feel free to look around the existing website. You'll be able to find out more about where the Collective has come from, what we've been up to over the last eight years and where we're headed.

See you on the other side...

VINTAGE CINEMA MOTORING TO CORNWALL PDF Print
News

If you like your cinemas quirky, you be pleased to hear about a unique slice of cinematic history motoring its way to Cornwall this month.

The Vintage Mobile Cinema was originally built in 1967, one of a fleet of seven commissioned by the Ministry of Technology to promote British industry.

Found abandoned in a field by Ollie Halls five years ago, the vehicle has been lovingly restored to its former glory complete with 22 tiered seats, an HD digital projection unit and screen, surround sound and a futuristic looking Perspex dome above the cab.

Thanks to funding from FEAST and South West Screen/UK Film Council Digital Film Archive Fund, Awen Productions are using the mobile cinema as part of their Tre Project – rediscovering Cornwall through archive film.

Featuring rare 1930s footage shot around Cornwall, together with locally donated, Super 8 material, a Cornish-made film incorporating archive material, and a short documentary about the mobile cinema itself, the cinema will be parked up in Liskeard on the 19 February and Truro on the 21 February, with screenings taking place at 45 minute intervals.

There will also be opportunities for people to find out more about both the Tre Project and the Vintage Mobile Cinema.

“It's the first time we've been to Cornwall so we're very excited about the visit,” explains Emma Giffard, the cinema’s manager. “It fits in not only with our aims of bringing a cultural experience to rural communities, but with the original ethos of the Mobile Cinemas when they were in operation in the 60s. Developed as an outreach tool, we’re proud to continue this work in new and interesting ways.”

Sounds like an experience not to be missed.
