![]() G-Love: headling The Happening Live in Cornwall Stranger is proud to be involved with 'The Happening Live' on Tuesday and Friday next week. Spanning surf and skate culture’s music, art and film, this world-class event is taking place in both London (1 July) and Cornwall (4 July), and we can’t wait! Read on to win tickets to this unmissable event and join us for some summer fun… As part of an international tour taking in Sydney, Tokyo, Paris, London, New York, San Francisco and, er, Cornwall, the The Happening showcases contemporary beach and street culture with a fine blend of art, music, and film from a wealth of surf culture maestros like G-Love, Matt Costa, Mason Jennings, Thomas Campbell, Andy Davis, Andrew Kidman and the Malloy brothers.

Musically on tap for the evening, G-Love headlines the Cornwall event, alongside local boys Neil Halstead and Ruarri Joseph, and Matt Costa will make his first ever appearance in Cornwall along with the talented Tristan Prettyman. With all this talent – and for less than half the price of the Jack Johnson gigs the same weekend – this line-up is almost too good to be true.As the sun goes down, film screenings will round off the event by showcasing films from some exceptional internationally renowned surf-filmmakers. Brendan and Emmett Malloy will preview their new film, One Track Mind, which offers an exclusive inside view into the minds of the elite surfing A-listers. The Malloys filmed the influential Thicker Than Water with Jack Johnson, and are also well known for their music videos. Read Stranger’s interview with Emmett Malloy here.
Also screening will be the award-winning feature, Sliding Liberia, by socially conscious Britton Caillouette and Nicholai Lidow. Semi auto-biographical, this film follows four young surfers as they travel through the war-torn West African nation of Liberia in search of perfect waves but find so much more than they expected. Also showing will be a preview of 16mm king Thomas Campbell’s new film, The Present, and a preview of Displacement, Alex Kopps’ upcoming art house surf flick.
The Stranger gang will be there with our associate editor, Michael Fordham, who will be signing copies of his new book, The Book of Surfing: A Killer Guide. There'll also be a chance to chat to some of the artists, photographers and designers who contributed to this beautiful book. (Read more about it here.)

But it’s not just about good tunes, good vibes and creative chin stroking – The Happening will also help raise money and awareness for a group of non-profit organisations, including the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (as supported by top surfers Dave Rastovich and Kelly Slater).
