Robyn Davies surfs for the National Trust

If you’re the kind of person who cringes at the thought of a week on a sun lounger, why not try and win a week of surf, sea and caring for our beautiful coastline?

The unbroken coastline between St Agnes and St Ives is home to a myriad of treats from vast expanses of golden sand to some of the best surf breaks you can throw your surfboard at.
“There’s a lot to be said about getting your hands dirty. Especially if it means you can wash them off in the surf afterwards,” says the National Trust’s Robyn Davies, who also happens to be the former UK women’s surf champion. Wise words indeed Robyn.

Godrevy island, managed by the National TrustWhether you use the ocean as your regular playground, take lovely walks along the jagged cliff paths, or find seclusion in the many cosy coves, you can’t have failed to notice how breathtakingly wonderful our South West coastlines are. And they need to stay that way, because imagine the horror next time you rocked up to your fave surf spot, and some corporate developer had built a monstrosity of a building…

National Trust volunteersSo if the idea of spending whole days outdoors, filling your lungs with fresh air sounds appealing, then the National Trust are offering someone the chance to take a surf holiday with a difference. Staying at the National Trust base camp situated above the cliffs at Chyvarloe, you will maintain the coastal access points, try your hand at step building, and help give the coastline a little spring clean.

And you’ll surf! The BSA qualified instructors at Shore Surf school will take you to all their little secret surfing spots, where you can get some personal tuition time and continue to soak up the views you’ve been working hard to help conserve.

All you have to do is correctly answer the following question:

How many miles of coastline does the National Trust look after in Devon and Cornwall?
a)    1
