Stranger is evolving.

Hello. Exciting stuff has been happening here at Stranger Collective which means we need to make a glut of changes to our website.

Things are starting to take shape, but until we're ready to share what it's all about please feel free to look around the existing website. You'll be able to find out more about where the Collective has come from, what we've been up to over the last eight years and where we're headed.

See you on the other side...

EUGENE MACGUINESS - EUGENE MACGUINESS There's a lot to like and admire on this album, but the range and change of styles make it feel bitty, incoherent and difficult to love.

Less is more, is a phrase that Eugene McGuiness doesn't seem to be familiar with. From the post-punk sturm and drang of 'Fonz' to the skiffle-beat pop confections of 'Rings Around Rosa' to the disarmingly beautiful 30s-style balladeering  of 'Those Black And White Movies' the album veers from unabashed, starry-eyed romance to pre-coital forked-tongue come-ons.

And that's its problem. There are some truly gorgeous tracks here (particularly 'Moscow State Circus' 'Monsters Under The Bed' and the afore-mentioned 'Those Black And White Movies'), some smart lyrics and sharp musical stylings.

But the constant change of styles starts to grate after a while. And the overall impression is of someone keen to show all that they can do at the expense of flow and cohesion. (Miles Taylor)
