Listening to the first Girl Talk UK release, Night Ripper, feels rather like listening to an extended music section of a pub quiz… one where the caller doesn’t repeat his choices and samples last about five seconds. 

Saying that Girl Talk (real name Gregg Gilliss) is a remix expert is an understatement to say the least.  This whole album comprises of over 250 samples of some of the most famous tunes from the past 30 years. Just as you get used to Kanye West, along comes Madonna, followed by The OC theme tune, The Breeders, Oasis, LL Kool J…and before you know it, you have no idea if a new song has started or the last one has finished. Girl Talk welcomes you into his strange world of cut and paste, and boy is it fun – if a little manic – to get lost in. (Tim Hill)
