Stranger is evolving.

Hello. Exciting stuff has been happening here at Stranger Collective which means we need to make a glut of changes to our website.

Things are starting to take shape, but until we're ready to share what it's all about please feel free to look around the existing website. You'll be able to find out more about where the Collective has come from, what we've been up to over the last eight years and where we're headed.

See you on the other side...

Reviews - Music

Menomena Avant Garde and experimental indie rock. Confused? We still are.

Listening to Menomena's debut UK offering is to take a journey into a surreal and twisted blur of sound/manipulated melodies. Formed by a group of high school friends, they write, record, produce and mix their music at home. Hastily signed on by City Slang Records after performing at this years South By Southwest festival, big things are clearly expected of this trio.

Friend and Foe at times struggles to live up to that billing, with moments of deepness juxtaposed with sugar-candy pop clippings. That is not to say that this record doesn't have its moments. 'My My' sounds like the freaky love child of a Postal Service and Modest Mouse collaboration (...in a good way!).

'Wet and Rusting' is the standout track though. Slowly building layers of sleek lyrics and manipulated piano, it is a tune worthy of a download at the very least.

You're left wondering who, what and why after listening to the sound of Menomena. Perhaps that's their idea? But to be frank, if we were looking for confusion we'll stick to walking around Tescos the wrong way on a Friday evening (go on, just try it!). (Pete Geall)
