NOSTALGIA 77Split across two CDs, with remixes on the first, and live tracks and B-Sides on the other, Nostalgia 77's ninth long-player contains some real gems. A diverse collection of tracks, with an impressive roll-call of collaborators including Bonobo, Alice Russell and Corinne Bailey Rae it shows off main man Benedic Lamdin's skills as a producer, remixer and composer.

Opener 'Quiet Dawn' pairs Beth Rowley's sultry vocals with a beautifully bluesy late-night backing. 'In Between The Lines' boasts sizzling drums from Graham Fox, Bajka's bluesy vocals and the bassiest of sax lines. The New Mastersounds' 'Your Love is Mine' featuring Corinne Bailey-Rae is characteristically lush, underpinned by the earthiness of an old time Jazz Standard.

Nostalgia 77's take on ‘Seven Nation Army’ is given a reggae makeover that will still appeal to those jazz enthusiasts who went wild for this cover version ‘first’ time around. Over on Disc 2 'The Moon' opens with dreamy keys from Capstone combined with the jazzy vocals of new Tru Thoughts signing Lizzy Parks.

Despite setting quality-control to high there are a couple of tracks that feel they are here to fill space instead of floors. A couple of the instrumentals cross the line between atmospheric and noodly. And as with most double albums, a bit more ruthless editing wouldn't have gone amiss. Maybe that way we'd have one amazing CD instead of two darn good ones. (Miles Taylor)
