Pepe DeluxePepe Deluxe's new album is an uncharted trip through 1960s psychedelic funk/rock, which somehow avoids sounding like a new Austin Powers soundtrack...

Self-described as a "genre hopping sonic assault", it's hard to avoid falling under the hypnotic spell of this multifaceted blend of surprisingly sample-free fun. Hailing from the sunny shores of Finland, the mind boggles to how this motley-crew came into producing such a decidedly hippy/pysch/electronic fusion of sound. But hey, who cares? Their carefree attitude runs through the record, and in an age of bands lacking personality, is its trump card.

This record isn't flawless though. Tracks like 'Captain Carters Fathoms' last a hefty seven minutes, leaving even the most dedicated space cadet begging for some reprieve. However, things get back on track with a great interlude and a funk based flourish on the brilliant 'Forgotten Knights'.

Spare Time Machine is an accessible trip and enjoyable one. Just turn on, tune in and drop out. (Pete Geall)
