County local singer songwriter Seth
Lakeman didn't fail to wow his audience at Falmouth's Princess Pavilion
in November 2008. The 'folk inspired' artist played sets from his new
top ten album Poor
Man's Heaven released just a few months ago.
The West-Country runs thick in Lakeman's veins and his songs contain the feelings and rhythms of the area. His track 'Solomon Browne' tells the true-life story of the an ill-fated lifeboat and brave lifeboat men aboard her that perished in 1981. Lakeman honors the 16
men and given the subject matter of the song is donating a percentage of
profits from the single to the RNLI.
Whilst continuing with emotive lyrics
and story telling, Lakeman's new music has a much more full, rock sound, a
modern take on the truest traditions of folk. His acoustic band captured a raw
edge whilst Seth poured out his coastal themed tunes: songs of greedy pirates
and heartbroken sailors.
The roar of the ocean could be heard in this rhythmic, engrossing set and everyone had their dancing shoes on for this one. Pure, raw talent releasing a room full of people from their poise. Maybe the biggest surprise of the evening however, was in fact, Lakeman's warm-up band Baskery. A swedish sister trio, they got the audience buzzing with their three-part harmonies and country acoustic sound. One's to watch.
