The Rascals - RascalizeThe Rascals debut album has been eagerly anticipated by anyone who has heard the Last Shadow Puppets. Made up of Arctic Monkeys front man Alex Turner and Rascals lead singer Miles Kane, the Puppets crept onto the music scene with little fuss, blowing everyone away with their epic sound. Listening to The Rascals, it is surprising to find that even with a voice as distinctive as Turner's and an influence as immense as the Artic Monkeys, it is in fact Kane who has the most influence on the Puppets.

Rascalize maintains all the richness and epic grandness of the Puppets, but the guitar is given much more prominence - producing an edgier sound with a raw, hard quality. The album has a staggeringly, gut wrenching, powerful feel with a mix of perfect and fearless tunes which astonish you at every turn. Kane's strong and sometimes raspy vocals scratch you as his guitar pulls you deeper into their cavernous, dark world.

The Last Shadow Puppets are a fine band but The Rascals are a force to be reckoned with on their own terms, with a sound much more powerful when not diluted by Turner's influence. (Niki Khoroushi)
