THE STOOGES - THE WEIRDNESS

The StoogesIggy and the Asheton brothers return to the studio after thirty-odd years and manage not to embarrass themselves. Which isn't bad going, but with a previous body of work as monolithic as The Stooges', The Weirdness inevitably seems a bit anaemic and unnecessary.

At its best, if one were being generous, this has some moments that could have been out-takes from Raw Power ('ATM', 'She Took My Money'), but the inescapable truth is that Iggy isn't the demonic, acid-crazed visionary he was in his youth. It's really that simple.

If you don't own Funhouse, buy that. If you don't own The Stooges or Raw Power, buy those. Then buy Metallic KO and a Kill City bootleg. Hell, if you still have some money left over after all that, just go out and get blind drunk and arrested. It's what the young Iggy would have wanted. (Ambrose Fischer)
