Tittsworth - Twelve StepsThe debut album from Washington DC DJ/producer, Tittsworth will certainly entertain nu ravers and hip hop-heads, but the overall ensemble is a bit cold and shallow to leave a lasting impression. The 'Ghetto-tech' laced tracks on Twelve Steps draw you in with their refreshing take on chart-driven R&B and hip hop, but there is something sterile in Tittsworth's remixes that don't resonate well with seasoned ears.

'WFT' features Kid Sister, Pase Rock and Santi White of Santogold on chorus duty, and should be a hearty concoction, but the result is monotonous and robot-stilted. 'Her She Comes' featuring Nina Sky's seductive vocals, is a mellower, soulful track amid this predominantly electro-dance-scape, employing a compelling disco backdrop and low-key tempo.

Twelve Steps is a step away from the mainstream domination of rap-driven hip hop and R&B, making for a promising proposition by placing the genre in an electro context. After a listen or two, Tittsworth's debut leaves little impression, but his sound and style have the potential to grow into something more profound. (Holly Wicks)
