X-PRESS2 - COAST 2 COASTRocky, Ashley and Diesel have conjured up a double mix delight, covering all bases in modern house music's wide musical tapestry. Featuring styles from deep disco to shady minimal via the odd twisted flashback to the late 1980s, they look set to put fire into the belly of all house enthusiasts.

Opener ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’ sees the boys collaborating with Bernard Fowler for a track that’s all shimmering pianos and breezy vocals. Presence’s ‘The Strength’ ushers in nagging bass, fuzzy synths and soft murmurs which spin into the demonic electronics of Master C & J’s ‘Dub Love’. Over on side two, the purring synths and twisted bass of AndreKramer’s ‘Dirty Fingernails’ slowly take hold, before Dennis Ferrer delivers the jacking house of ‘Transitions’, punctuated with high-claps and bongo licks.

This mix is nothing if not eclectic – which is its weakness as well as its strength. Although X-Press 2 do a great job of showcasing the many different sides of house music and deliver some great moments, it never feels like a cohesive whole. (Miles Taylor)
