It's not just about the screen or printed page... Stranger Collective also enjoys using its creative talents to produce engaging, entertaining and informative copy for innovative exhibition spaces like the recently renovated Bude Tourist Information and Canal Visitor Centre in north Cornwall.

Working with design and build specialists 20/20 (whose website we also happen to have written all the copy for - view here), we researched and wrote the copy for five specially themed spaces within the exhibition, as well as resource/education packs and a number of interpretation panels along the canal.

Exhibition copy needs to work extra hard to bring exhibits to life and engage and stimulate visitors. There are many factors to distract people and interfere with their reading, with the average visitor reading between 10 and 20% of any exhibition text.

Stranger Collective are experts at distilling research and source information into concise, lively and thought-provoking exhibition copy for readers of all ages. As well as establishing a suitable tone of voice to communicate effectively with the target audience, we work closely with design teams to suggest interesting ways of structuring the text to grab visitors' attention and really bring stories and facts to life. This might include typographic pictures and scripts for audio files and projections.

For Bude Visitor Centre we created imaginative copy for the Inventor's Desk (left), which introduced people to some of the most colourful local characters. Different characters, their stories and eccentricities were communicated through diary extracts, letters and quotes hidden in the desk's drawers - providing a fun way for visitors to discover more about them. We were also able to convey a large amount of information in a compact space.
