Miss Peapods, Penryn (28 May) & Acorn Arts Centre, Penzance (29 May) Cornwall’s hardest working record company, Lono, have pulled it out the bag again and managed to bring the supremely talented Canadian cellist Julia Kent all the way to the county. She’ll play two exclusive gigs next week (28/29 May), and Stranger have got a pair of tickets up for grabs. ![]() Photo by Sylvie Biscioni Julia is most notable for playing on Antony & The
Johnsons classic I Am A Bird Now
record, although she’s also worked with the likes of Devendra Banhart, Teddy
Thompson and Rufus Wainwright. Her debut solo release, Delay, is a stunning album of cinematic and melodic beauty...which you
can sample right now by checking out her official MySpace page. Miss Peapod’s, Penryn (28 May) Support on both nights comes from Simon Drinkwater who, according to David from Lono, takes in “a broader range of influences than any other acoustic player I am aware of. Simon’s majestic chord changes are not something you could ever confuse with the legion of nu-folk hum-drum songwriters...” High praise indeed. Check out his MySpace. Tickets for the gig at Miss Peapod’s are available from the venue itself (Miss Peapod’s, Commercial Road, Penryn), Jam (High St, Falmouth) and The Poly on 01326 212300 or online at www.thepoly.org. Tickets for the Acorn gig are available from Acorn Arts Centre on 01736 365520. Both are priced at £6. COMPETITION!
