Woodlane Bar, Falmouth, 16 May

THE COMPUTERSThe Computers, OK Pilot, Shapes and The Sycamores are warming up their vocal chords ready for a night of energetic entertainment in Falmouth.

This collection of four bands, from three counties, at a one-off gig that’s just £3 to get in, looks set to be a promising event, providing a heavier alternative to Cornwall’s much relished (but increasingly stale) open mic nights, giving everyone a taste of how live music should be – shit-hot.

First in the line up, vying for the attention of the crowd will be Exeter’s very own, The Computers. With a recorded live session for the Radio 1 punk show, a full-page spread in Kerrang and a feature in Rocksound under their belt, this year-old band are already putting a powerful stamp on the music scene.

OK PILOTThey sound somewhere between Elvis Costello and the attractions and Black Flag with Clash and Chuck Berry influences. A confusing mix, but when heard through the ears it’s an enjoyably heady combination. An intense fusion of rock n roll, hardcore and quirky lyrics topped off with surprisingly harmonic melodies and a sprinkling of sweat.

Next is the energetic post-punk party OK Pilot also from Exeter. These boys have previously played with Hell is For Heroes, Tellison, The Xcerts and graced the pages of Rocksound as one of the ‘100 bands to watch in 2007’.

The third band is Birmingham four-piece, Shapes, who will be unveiling their angular, technical and progressive rock music with powerful barrages of instrumental noise and enraged vocals. Described by UK alternative music webzine, Push to Fire as ‘A band that has a sixth sense for music and all the sentiment, enthusiasm and intense energy that should come with it.’ they are one to keep your eye on.

THE SYCAMORES Ending the gig on a local note will be Cornish band, The Sycamores. This Indie/post-punk four piece play music in the vein of bands such as Good Shoes, Bloc Party and Kings of Leon. An impressive live band with a distinctive and original sound they will finish this night of fresh music in style.

Music starts at 7.30 (Kezia Clark)
