He’s
back! The talented ‘didgeridoo-it-all’ man himself Xavier Rudd and
we’ve got tickets to give away. Being no stranger to the shores of
Cornwall, this will be Xavier’s fourth time playing in Falmouth – but
expect something a little different this time.
The messages of hope and global responsibility remain, but accompanied by overtones of heavy guitar riffs and electronic distortion. If you’ve ever listened to the Black Keys, you’ll have an idea of the kind of direction he’s taking. The new sound becomes understandable once you realise Joe Baressi (Tool, Queens of the Stone age) had a hand in recording the new album Dark Shades of Blue.
And as an extra treat, Xavier Rudd is being supported by Canadian indie-rock band Birds of Wales. These four guys are fresh from Vancouver’s music scene and have been making waves both sides of the Atlantic. Their Fall of the 49 EP features ‘My Lady; in July’ which will appear in Ecstasy, Rob Heydon’s upcoming film based on Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting. Their album is refreshingly happy and honest in an otherwise image-obsessed indie scene. And like Xavier Rudd, they fight for well-deserved causes.
So there you have it. Two extremely talented musical talents playing Falmouth’s Princess Pavilion, and we happen to have two tickets up for grabs. (Amy McGuire)
